Might be weird and to say and you can argue with me on this, but I believe there are some musicals that are made for one gender than the other. But if I had to choose several that I believe that are made for both genders equally because it has elements that both men and woman seem to enjoy, has likeable songs, an enjoyable setting, and a tone that stands out, than that musical film would be Grease. Grease is the story set during the 1950s about two young lovers including a greaser named Danny, played by John Travolta, and the Australian good girl named Sandy, played by Olivia Newton-John, who meet during the summer and fall in love. The two then end up going to the same school, Rydell High, together as Sandy's parents decided to live in the United States. But thanks to complications and peer pressure the two have trouble to rekindle that love they felt during that summer with the help of their friends who also have side stories about accomplishing their love lives and figuring out their goals and dreams that need to be accomplished once they graduate from high school. The main characters Danny and Sandy could not have been anymore perfectly different, the basic story of two people who fall in love but come from two separate worlds is present, but it is still done rather charming and with this innocence that it is sort of hard not to pass. Though from the beginning they act and behave differently from each other, you can sense that the two are in fact in love and the love that the two have for each other are most definitely equal. The side characters are pretty enjoyable as well. The film allows them two to have story arcs as well it allows the audience to care for these characters and there stories, and again they are told well enough for us to hope the character's reach their goal. All the songs are enjoyably catchy such as Summer Nights, Hopelessly Devoted, Greased Lightning, Sandra Dee, Sandy, and You're the One that I Want, but by far my all time favorite song from the entire movie has to be the finale song We Go Together. It's catchy, fun, upbeat, positive, fun to sing along with, energetic, an atmosphere of goodness, fun lyrics, all that good stuff. Whenever I listen to it, it just doesn't make want to dance but I get this happy feeling inside that is so wonderful nothing negative in the world can bring it down. The story which of course I have to address is basic but it is still fun to get into sake of the good characters and music, so it is easy to excuse. It is not really something to get emotionally and dramatically invested into, but on its own it's still a fun and enjoyable movie, and I like fun and enjoyable movies. Not all movies have to be gritty and realistic, you can just have a movie with at least a solid story and characters and still have fun with it, and they do have fun with this movie because, well it's a musical and the songs are a lot of fun. Grease definitely stands out as something that did not need to be deemed special but it is to a lot of the fans and I definitely see why. Grease and I go together like rama lama lama ke ding a de ding a dong! Grade: P+
